A seated horizontal press against two cable stacks, elbows starting bent to about 90 degrees and upper arms around 45 degrees from the ribs. Because the cables pull backwards the whole time, there is no lockout to rest in — the chest holds tension at the top, which is the one thing a barbell bench press cannot do.

Breathing & tempo — Inhale as the handles return, exhale through the press. Two seconds out, a one-second hold at the front, two to three seconds back.
Where to start, and what to change when it stops being hard.
Expect to use roughly 60-70% per side of what you would put on a bench press per side, and treat the first session as calibration — cable stacks are geared differently between machines and the numbers do not transfer. Add 2.5-5 kg per side when you can hold the front position for a full second on the final rep without your shoulders rolling forward.

Tuck to roughly 45 degrees and keep them there. Wide elbows on a constant-tension press grind the front of the shoulder for no extra chest recruitment.
Set the blades down and back against the pad and treat that as the fixed point. Reduce the stack by 5 kg per side until the press happens without the shoulders travelling.
Move the seat forward until the stack is still lifted a centimetre off the rest of the pile at the deepest point. Slack cables mean the hardest part of the rep is doing nothing.
Keep your ribs down and press your lower back gently toward the pad. If the trunk has to help, the weight belongs to a barbell press, not this one.
On a barbell bench, the hardest point is just off the chest and the easiest is at lockout, where the load stacks over your joints and the muscle gets a breather. A cable stack pulls with the same force at every point in the range, so the top of a cable press is still work. Over a set of twelve, that is a meaningful amount of extra time under load.
The other difference is that the two handles are independent. Each arm has to control its own path, which exposes a side that has been quietly coasting on a barbell, and it lets you press one arm at a time or stagger the reps without changing station.
As the main press on a day when a barbell is not available or your shoulders want a friendlier path, or as the second pressing movement after benching, for 3 sets of 10-12. It is a genuinely good primary press for beginners: no unracking, no spotter, no bar to drop, and the failure mode is the handles simply coming back to you.

For chest size, largely yes — the constant tension makes up for the lower absolute load, and it is kinder to shoulders. For maximum strength, no: the cable press caps out well below what you can bench, and if you ever want to test or compete in a barbell lift you have to train the barbell. Use it as your press if a bench is not the goal.
Seated for chest, standing for everything else. With your back on a pad the load goes into your pecs; standing, your ability to resist being pulled backwards becomes the limit, which makes it a core exercise wearing a chest exercise's name. Both are useful — just know which one you are doing.
Armpit height for a flat press. Drop them to hip level and press upward and inward for an incline feel that biases the upper chest; raise them above the shoulder and press down for a decline feel. Changing the pulley height is the cheapest way to get three angles out of one station.
Yes, and it is one of the reasons to pick this over a machine press. Pressing single-arm shows you which side is weaker, forces your obliques to stop your torso rotating, and lets you give the lagging side an extra set. Run the weak side first and match the strong side to it.
