Cookie Policy

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. Similar technologies (such as local storage) work in comparable ways. They let a website remember things between requests — most importantly, that you are signed in. This policy explains which cookies Bikkel uses and why.

Bikkel keeps its cookie use minimal. We currently use only cookies that are strictly necessary to run the Service and process payments — we do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics trackers.

These are required for the Service to function and cannot be switched off through our interface:

• Session cookie — set by our authentication layer (Better Auth) to keep you securely signed in. Without it, you would have to log in on every page.
• Security cookies — used to protect sign-in and requests against cross-site request forgery and abuse.
• Preferences — remembering basic app settings, such as your chosen unit (KG or LB), so the app behaves the way you left it.

When you upgrade to a paid plan, our payment provider Polar may set cookies that are necessary to run the checkout securely and complete your purchase. These are set during the payment flow and are governed by Polar’s own cookie and privacy notices.

We do not currently set analytics or marketing cookies. If we introduce privacy-friendly analytics in the future, we will update this policy, categorise the new cookies here, and — where the law requires consent — ask for it through a cookie banner before any non-essential cookie is set.

Because we currently rely only on strictly necessary cookies, no consent banner is shown — essential cookies are exempt from consent under the ePrivacy Directive and the GDPR. You can still control or delete cookies through your browser settings, but blocking essential cookies will stop you from signing in and using the Service.

We may update this Cookie Policy as the Service evolves. Material changes — for example, introducing analytics cookies and a consent banner — will be reflected here with an updated "last updated" date.
